Videos and QR Codes in the Library

You Tube

It's no wonder You Tube has been a big hit in the last decade.  You can be a director, producer, and actor all in one.
For this assignment, I look at over 10 videos created by different librarians and educators. They were ALL very good and informative to students and staff.  Here are the highlights:

The NHS Library
I absolutely loved this you tube video. This video explained the purpose of their library as well as their policies. The video gave patrons important information about the resources available, procedures for going to the library, services available, rules and guidelines for Norman High School. I plan on making one, even if it is for an elementary school.

Another Norman Library video I found was useful was the Poetry for Student Video.
She did screencasts and screenshots to show students how to get to access to the  resources the library and district has paid for in order for them to complete their assignmnet for English 1.  She guided the students step-by-step, and even gave them some advice and ideas. Library card, sign in, citations and apps were explained. Students are able to view this video over and over again. No excuses can be given by the students if they didn't get it done.

The next Library is the The Unquiet Library. This is another high school library that has posted tutorials and screencasts videos showcasing teacher collaboration reflection, student learning reflections, gaming in the library, and tips on uploading and using technology. There motto is:
Not Your Mother's Library. Your Library.
A quick visit to their blog page has earned them a new subscriber.

The video, Student Blogger Discusses Why She Loves Blogging, can be a selling point to try to get more
students into the world of blogging.

Students also have a video on how on Finding Creative Commons images in Advanced Flickr Search. She has screen cast the direction step by step so students can watch this video tutorial several times. Any confusion on using copyright materials is easily cleared up.

The third YouTube channel I had the pleasure of viewing is the PikesVille High School Library.
A lot of the videos look like they have been student created. This in itself should motivate students to visit the library and become more involve.  Some of the videos provide tutorials on how to use technology and some teacher videos as well. This teacher video explains about why taking AP courses are crucial if you want to go the college in the future. They have at least six other AP teachers explaining the same thing about each  AP subject. This one is about AP Biology.

Another video shows how students love and are motivated to go to the library. This encourages others to go to the library too. Librarys aren't all boring and quiet. Talk about fun and motivation!!!

My fourth library channel is the BBMS Library. Again, this channel looks like most of their videos were created by the students. There are some librarian/teacher created ones, but I just love how they let the students drive the production.  Amazing. The parody of Twight and Hunger games are amazing as well.  For my elementary students, this one parody on Frozen will be a treat. It's cute and encourages students to  bring those overdue books back to the library.

Another video I liked was the raving review of the book Hugo Cabret. Once shown to students, they will be wanting to read this book for sure. I enjoyed the listening to it, and blush that I have not read it yet. I read Wonderstruck, and will make a beeline to this book the next time I go to the Public library.

Videos like these, and the ones I will create, can promote my library in several ways. They will motivate kids to check books that probably have never heard of, thus increasing student library visits. Videos can walk students through various projects, assignments, and processes. Videos on student collaboration and reflections can  be a model to current and future students. My library can be acessible at home or on the go. Videos are a quick and easy way to get information out to the entire school body.

Animoto

Animotos remind me of Photostory or windows movie maker. It was quiet simple and easy to make. I am so glad this course has taught me another avenue to make even better movies.

Here is an animoto I created this YA book:

I hope you enjoyed it because I enjoyed making it. I am going to make a lot of these. Yeah me!!

QR Codes
After doing some research and reading a few blogs on QR codes, I found out some really neat and cool ways to use QR Codes in the library or classroom. I am going to use QR Codes for book trailers, video links, links to research websites, author pages, and in my stations(to check answers). I saw scavenger hunts as a way too, and I am definitely going to look into that.  I love scavenger hunts!

Here's mine on the book, Runner by Carl Deunker:
